The Teacher Assistant follows the direction of Lead Teacher and/or Teacher by reinforcing classroom lessons with daily activities and assisting with the supervision of the classroom environment while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow physically, socially and emotionally.
• Interact positively and treat each child with dignity and respect.
• Assist classroom teachers with the execution of Ascend Curriculum and Cadence Signature activities.
• Greet each child enthusiastically and establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service.
• Flexible to float and assist in different classrooms with different age groups of children for short and long periods of time throughout the day.
May cover the classroom during teacher with breaks, planning time, absences, etc.
• Maintain a positive atmosphere of child behavioral guidance and learning within established state staff/child ratios.
• Maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times and utilize the Name-to-Face Attendance Roster to insure their safety in the classroom and on the playground.
• Responsible for the safety and supervision of children in the classroom, on the playground and on the field trips.
Require to adhere to Cadence Education Safety and Supervision Manual.
• Maintains all licensing compliance and government health and safety standards as mandated by OSHA and Cadence at all times.
• Documents and reports all accidents and incidents to Cadence policy and state regulations.
• Communicate clearly to parents to understand daily activities, curriculum and signature programs.
• Recognize and address children’s diverse learning styles, as well as social, cultural, emotional, developmental and educational needs.
Communicate observations to the Lead Teacher or Director.
• Assist the teachers with classroom arrangement that is developmentally appropriate for children.
• Sit and participate with children during meal and snack times.
• Help children with clothing, grooming, health habits and bathroom activities.
• Utilizes required company resources to communication clearly, concisely and respectfully with parents both verbally and in writing.
• Maintain a clean and safe classroom by picking up toys, washing tables, cleaning up spills, disinfecting changing tables and bathrooms.
2 • Follow all safety initiatives and procedures to reduce the risk of injury.
• Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the schools.
Additional Responsibilities That May Be Performed: • May assume a Teacher role in the absent of a Teacher.
• Position may require more than 40 hours a week and may include evening and weekend activities.
• Required to attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, in-service events, and other development meetings.
Some meetings, workshops and trainings may be offsite.
• Require 24 training hours per year of professional development related to early childhood education.
• Assists in organizing and supervising class parties and field trips.
• Assisting Children during medical procedures, i.
e.
first-aid, nose bleeds, times of illness, administration of medication, etc.
• Diapering children or cleaning up after a child has a toilet accident.
• Handling contaminated items such as soiled clothing, tissues, and diapers.
• Adhere to the Bottle Feeding Procedures and Cadence Safe Sleep Procedures.
• Reports maintenance needs and escalates issues as needed, following Cadence Education guidelines.
• Community Group Involvement.
• Other duties may be assigned by management.
Education, Experience and Skills Required: • Must meet minimum experience and education required for all state education and licensing and maintains credentials for the position.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• CDA, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
• Must meet educational standards for school program.
• Minimum of 12 months of early childhood education experience preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age • Strong interpersonal skills including, but not limited to; communication, listening, positive attitude, empathy, and attentiveness.
• Excellent customer service skills and proven success with building family relationships.
• Must have a high ability to adapt to change positively and be flexible.
