Early Head Start/Head Start Parenting Education & Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, and Enrollment Assistant
Overall Purpose
The job of EHS-HS PE & ERSE Assistant is done for the purpose/s of assisting parents or guardians and staff to complete parenting education requirements and Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, and Enrollment (ERSE) requirements.
Direct Supervisor Director of Early Learning Essential Functions Schedules appointments with parents and conducts face to face interviews for the purpose of collecting required information and records to determine eligibility.
Assists parents or guardians with ERSEA requirements (applications, eligibility determination, selection of appropriate option, termination of participants that withdraw in a timely manner, etc.
) for the purpose of to ensure the success of participants in the Early Head Start program under ERSEA.
Counsels students, staff, parents and guardians (evaluating situations, solving problems, resolving conflicts, referral to appropriate professionals, etc.
) for the purpose of enhancing probability of student success in school.
Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential lists and records (work and appointment schedules, contact logs, parent resources, etc.
) for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information.
Assists with the organization of parent workshops and meetings (updates in regulations, etc.
) for the purpose of decreasing parental isolation and developing parent involvement with their child's school activities.
Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees (parent-student workshops, educational seminars, department in-service, etc.
) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
Assists in the preparation of a variety of documents, reports, and written materials (student progress, contacts with parents, teachers, outside professionals, etc.
) for the purpose of communicating information to parents and staff, providing written support, developing recommendations, and/or conveying information.
Recruits eligible Clarke County families (low-income families, single-parent families, foster children, homeless children, etc.
) for the purpose of participating in the Head Start and Early Head Start program.
Refers students and parents to outside agencies (health issues, child care subsidies,HEP, etc.
) for the purpose of linking families to needed resources.
Responds to potential emergencies encountered during recruitment visits (child abuse, etc.
) for the purpose of ensuring safety of students and/or personnel.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (other district staff, outside agencies, parents, students, etc.
) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
Marginal Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Competencies Skills-based Competencies Required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent laws, rules and regulations; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
Knowledge-based Competencies Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: infant and preschool development stages; parenting methods; and community resources.
Ability-based Competencies Required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.
Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited.
Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: being attentive to detail; communicating with persons with varied cultural and educational backgrounds; establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; and maintaining confidentiality.
Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish preferred Valid Georgia Driver’s License Physical Requirements The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
